Skeletons and Segmentationof Shapes

چکیده

The emphasis of the two approaches described in this chapter is on determining shape skeletons in the presence of noise. The parts of the skeleton which are most robust in the presence of noise correspond to the parts of the shape where its width varies slowly. In contrast, singular points of the skeleton such as junctions tend to be sensitive to noise. The strategy therefore is to concentrate on determining the robust parts and fill in the details afterwards as needed. The first approach takes advantage of the geometry of the distance function while the second analyzes the local symmetries of the level sets of a smooth analog of the distance function.

MFPS 2007 Skeletons , Homomorphisms , and Shapes : Characterizing Protocol Executions 1

In this paper we develop a framework, based on strand spaces, for reasoning about cryptographic protocols and characterizing their executions. We define skeletons, homomorphisms, and shapes. Skeletons model partial information about regular (honest) behavior in an execution of a cryptographic protocol. A homomorphism between skeletons is an information-preserving map. Much protocol analysis may...

Skeletons of 3D Shapes

A new method for determining skeletons of 3D shapes is described. It is a combination of the approach based on the ”grass-fire” technique and Zhu’s approach based on first finding portions of the shape where its width is approximately constant. The method specifically does not require presmoothing of the shape and is robust in the presence of noise. In an appendix, a method based on variational...

Using Polyballs to Approximate Shapes and Skeletons

This paper presents an approach to approximate the skeleton of continuous shapes either in 2D or 3D space. The data required is a sampling of the boundary of the shape. We call polyball any nite union of balls. A preliminary work on polyballs shows that their skeletons consist of simple components (line segments in 2D and polygons in 3D). To construct these components, only the computation of a...

Seeing structure: Shape skeletons modulate perceived similarity.

An intrinsic part of seeing objects is seeing how similar or different they are relative to one another. This experience requires that objects be mentally represented in a common format over which such comparisons can be carried out. What is that representational format? Objects could be compared in terms of their superficial features (e.g., degree of pixel-by-pixel overlap), but a more intrigu...

Skeletons and the Shapes of Bundles

Skeletons model partial information about regular (honest) behavior in an execution of a cryptographic protocol. A homomorphism between skeletons is an information-preserving map. Much protocol analysis may be regarded as an exploration of the properties of the category of skeletons and homomorphisms. In particular, the strand space authentication tests are special homomorphisms. These ideas su...
